List Of Names Called For NEC Interview 2024| The improvement of the Permanent Register of Voters is a preparation for the local government elections expected to be held this year 2024.
The election director has quoted section 10(1) (c) of the Independent National Electoral Commission Act no. 2 of the year 2024 which directs that the Independent National Electoral Commission will manage local government elections using the law that will be enacted.
“Section 10(1)(c) of the Independent National Electoral Commission Act No. 2 of 2024 imposes a requirement on the Commission to manage and coordinate the operation of local government and township elections in mainland Tanzania in accordance with the procedure to be specified in the Act to be enacted and the Parliament. The law has not yet been enacted,” said Mr. Kailima.

The Director of Elections has called on people who make such distortions to stop because the results are bad and can affect the voting process in the local government elections.

National Electoral Commission (NEC) Of Tanzania
The Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania under Article 74, establishes a National Election Commission.
There is no specific legislation dealing with the structure and operations of the Commission. The Commission as constituted by the Constitution consists of seven members who are appointed by the President.
The Commissioners enjoy security of tenure of office and can only be removed from office by the President for failure to discharge their functions either due to illness or misconduct.
Registration To Be A Voter
According to Article 9 (1) of the Law on the Election of the President, Members of Parliament and Councilors No. 1 of the year 2024, in order for a person to be registered as a Voter, he must have the following qualifications:
(i) Be a citizen of Tanzania;
(ii) He must have reached the age of 18; and
(iii) He must not have lost his reputation in accordance with the Laws on the Election of the President, Members of Parliament and Councilors No. 1 of the Year 2024 or any other Law enacted by Parliament.
After fulfilling these qualifications, one should follow the following procedure:
1. You will go to the voter registration center located near where you live.
2. You will introduce yourself to the Assistant Writer and the Assistant Writer will ask you questions and fill in a special form
3. You will go to the BVR kit Operator for taking electronic marks including taking pictures
4. You will be given a Voter’s card and you must check your name, photo and other information, if it is correct and after you are satisfied you will leave the station.
Voter General Qualifications
Article 5 (1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania has given the right to every citizen who has reached the age of eighteen to vote. In accordance with articles 81 (1) and (2) and 85 (1) of the Election Law of the President, Members of Parliament and Councilors no. 1 of the year 2024, in order for a person to be able to vote, he must have the following qualifications:-
(i) Be a citizen of the United Republic:
(ii) Be registered in the permanent register of voters:
(iii) Be registered in the State or Ward; and
(iv) He should be at the station assigned to him in the electoral area where he has registered as a voter.
The Law on the Election of the President, Members of Parliament and Councilors allows a person to vote in accordance with the following procedure:
(i) The Voter must go to the polling station he registered with his voting card.
(ii) The voter must line up at the polling station and wait until his turn to vote.
(iii) The voter must follow all the instructions given to him by the station manager all the time he is in the station.
(iv) After finishing voting, the voter should return home.
